Middlesex Girls' Soccer Falls to Nobles

10/23/2016 11:25:00 AM

The Zebras were slow out of the gates on Saturday against a tenacious, fast and determined Nobles team. Nobles got up by two back to back goals fairly early in the first half and continued its siege as Middlesex struggled to gain momentum and its rhythm. However, Middlesex regrouped and held the Bulldogs off until the end of the first half when Nobles netted another goal to go up by three. However, the Zebras refused to quit and worked tirelessly to generate offensive opportunities with some shots going wide or with loose rebounds in front of the net that they were not able to capitalize on. Nonetheless, Middlesex continued its determination and scored a goal in the 39th minute by Ellery Winkler '19 to close the gap before the second half. Middlesex regrouped at halftime and started the second half with more conviction and playing a quicker brand of soccer, but Nobles got on the scoreboard again first and towards the end of the half again to increase its lead by four. Again, Middlesex refused to quit and battled back to score a second goal just before the end of the game. It was a tough afternoon for the Zebras, but the late half goals reflect a resilient mindset and a deep desire to compete for 80 full minutes. Middlesex will use the long weekend to rest and recover and prepare for another tough I.S.L match-up at home against Rivers on Wednesday October 26 at 3:15PM.
