Middlesex Wrestlers Win 12th Straight

1/28/2016 6:08:00 AM

Middlesex Wrestling traveled to the undefeated Lexington Christian Lions Saturday afternoon, who had all the potential of upsetting the undefeated Middlesex Zebras. But, the team warmed up with a sense of  purpose.  They focused on their matches by working on takedowns and making adjustments to their stand-ups.

Stating at the 113lb wt class, freshman Peter Daichman started off the match with a deliberate pin to give the team a 6 pt margin, a lead it would not relinquish.  Dante Gutbrod, Ted Pyne, Gavin Fujimori, and Jivan Purutyan added technical falls and pins to bolster the score out of reach for the challengers.  The excitement of Ted Pyne's pin brought silence to the LCA crowd.

Afterward, the methodically dominant Gavin would pin his opponent in the first period. But, perhaps the highlight of the day for the Middlesex fans who made the trip, was Jivan Purutyan, who pinned his opponent, a national qualifier, with determination and strength and a bit of "toe drive" to finish his cradle position pin. Nick Agee mounted an 18-8 score over his opponent with consecutive takedowns and several  near-fall back points to further solidify the team score.

Before the match ended  Andrew Zhang was technical, strong, and dominant over a wrestler previously undefeated in dual matches.  He pinned his opponent to end the official matches for the day, preserving the team's undefeated record with its 12th consecutive win. In the Exhibition matches Ameya and Kojo both pinned their opponents, while Marcus won on points. It was truly a team win in participation and effort.
