The Zebras travelled down to Southborough on a glorious fall afternoon to challenge the Lions to a fierce and competitive battle. From the start Middlesex struggled to find their rhythm and play quickly but patiently as we adjusted to the field and the high pressure from St. Mark's. The Lions got onto the board first with a well played shot to the back post off of a defensive breakdown. Middlesex bore down to even the score, but they went into halftime down by a goal. With renewed focus and determination, the Zebras picked up their play and created several key scoring opportunities. They were finally able to capitalize on one when Isabelle Fuchs '17 fired one into the net past the St. Mark's goalie. The Lions persisted and countered with another goal shortly thereafter. It was then the Zebra's turn to rally and attack and they nearly netted two more with valiant efforts and running up top by Ellery Winkler '19 and Lucie Gildehaus '18 and a shot off the crossbar by Isabelle Fuchs '17. The Lions again quickly countered and capitalized on a 3rd goal from another defensive breakdown. The clock wound down and the Zebras found themselves still two goals down. Middlesex will rally and get back to work to prepare for another tough I.S.L battle on their home turf against St. Paul's at 2pm on Wednesday September 30th.
