Baseball Notches Come From Behind Victory Over Brooks

5/14/2015 9:44:00 AM

Kai Long's two out single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Will Thrun with the winning run as Middlesex notched a come from behind 9-8 victory over Brooks in ISL baseball action on Wednesday.

Brooks opened the scoring in the top of the first but Middlesex responded with two in their half of the inning for a 2-1 lead after one. Brooks took the lead with four unearned runs in the top of the second and the score stayed 5-2 until the bottom of the fourth when Zach Steer, Ben Cherington, Austin Dorsey, and Kyle Finke led off the inning with consecutive hits to make the score 5-4.

Brooks scored three in the top of the sixth to seemingly put the game away but Middlesex rallied in their half of the inning for four runs, the big blow a two out, two run triple by Austin Perry. Perry scored on a throwing error to tie the game at 8.

After Perry stranded the tying run on second with a strikeout in the top of the inning, it appeared the game was headed to extra innings after Brooks quickly recorded two outs in the bottom half. However, Thrun walked and Mike Doherty reached when his grounder to third could not be handled, setting the stage for Long's heroics. His single to left brought around Thrun, who barely beat the relay home for the winning margin.

Every Middlesex starter had at least one hit, with Thrun leading the Zebra attack with three hits, and Steer and Justin White added two apiece.
