2/20/2015 8:48:00 AM

Middlesex Boys Varsity Basketball won a back and forth contest on Wednesday in the Cage.  Groton jumped out to a quick 16-7 lead before MX was able to find its groove.  The Zebras first half was led junior Austin Dorsey (10 points) and senior Ben Cherington (8 points).  Middlesex pressure came up with 12 first half steals as the Zebras rallied and took at 31-26 lead by halftime.

MX would start the second half by briefly pushing the lead to double figures at 38-28 with 14 minutes to go.  Groton continued to claw back and grabbed the lead 52-50 with 4:20 to play.  Dorsey sandwiched 3pters around a Groton basket to go ahead 56-54 with 2:15 remaining.  With 18 seconds remaining, MX had a turnover and was down one point and in need of fouling Groton.  Groton missed the ensuing free throw which was rebounded by MX.  Austin Perry found Hamza Usman for a layup in which he missed but was fouled with 3.5 seconds.  Usman made the 2nd free throw to force overtime.

In the overtime, MX struck first on fine play by senior Khari King finding Austin Dorsey for his 7th 3pt basket for the game.  Hamza Usman would close out the scoring for MX on a couple of nifty drives to the rim, including the final one with 24 seconds left to put MX up 64-60.

Dorsey led MX with 26 points and 6 blocks.  Usman had 17 points with 9 rebounds.  Cherington and junior Jack Lyne had 8 points. Sophomore Tyler Lennon contributed 3 steals, 2 rebounds and 2 assists off the bench.  MX returns to action at Belmont Hill on Friday night.
