Wrestling Defeats Milton, 58-24

12/7/2015 3:04:00 PM

The wrestling season launched Friday night with a powerful victory over the perennial power Milton Academy by an impressive score of 58 to 24.  A little over a week into the season, the team took charge of the early matches jumping out to a 24 to 6 lead with pins by Naomi Hunt '17, Dante Gutbrod '19, and forfeits awarded to Ameya Shere '18, and Peter Daichman '19.

The energy from the home crowd helped create momentum as the match continued with consecutive pins by Ted Pyne '18 and co-captain Gavin Fujimori '16 to put the Middlesex Zebras ahead for good.  Consistent technique and relentless pressure were the buzzwords heard from the fans.  Friends, parents, and the curious spectators were all treated to excitement and thrills throughout the match.

Jivan Purutyan '16 and co-captain Nick Agee '16 both recorded pins and utilized strength and determination over the ISL foes to bring the crowd to a raucous crescendo. Next up for the team were David Wong '16 and Andrew Zhang '16. Wong pinned his opponent in the first period.  Zhang looked as smooth and fluid as he had during his stretch of victories last year, winning convincingly by a score of 8-0, netting the team four points for the victory. Kojo Edzie, Marcus Coward, and Alex Wagner also won impressive exhibition matches.

Next up, Middlesex hosts Nobles and Greenough School on Wednesday, December 9 at 4:00 p.m.
