Boys' Varsity Soccer Tops Roxbury Latin, 3-1

11/7/2015 8:44:00 AM

Middlesex shook off the bus legs after the trip to West Roxbury and the opening two minutes were packed with action.  Middlesex took the kickoff and worked the ball down the left side for Matt Rhinelander to turn the corner and fizz a flat ball back to the penalty spot for a one-time finish to the roof of the net from Reed Foster. Roxbury Latin then took the ensuing kickoff and worked the ball to the left side when Simon Fisher lifted a floating ball that found its way into the back of the net to knot the match at one in less than two minutes.  Then in the fifteenth minute, Middlesex worked the ball across the front of the RL area and Nick Buonanno dropped it into the feet of Liam Sloan who found some space with some nifty footwork and slid a ball to his right for Cole Whisnand, who hammered a shot that ricocheted in off of the far post for the 2-1 lead that would hold up until half time.  With just under a half hour left, freshman Jacob Charles beat his man on the dribble as he came out of the midfield and launched a dipping ball from 25 yards that curled right into the far side of the net for the final goal of the match.  It was a competitive match that saw standout performances put in by Simon Fisher for RL and Liam Sloan and Jivan Purutyan for Middlesex.
