On a brisk and cool autumn afternoon, the Middlesex boys' cross-country team travelled to Concord, N.H. to face a deep and experienced St. Paul's squad. The varsity boys dropped a close result (31-27) to the home team, while the junior varsity boys extended their winning streak to eleven meets by a 26-29 scoreline.
At the first mile mark of the varsity race, the top two competitors from each school were running in tight pack of four; in the second and third miles, however, senior co-captains Viraj Deokar and Gavin Fujimori pulled away from their opposites numbers, finishing in 16:13 and 16:39 respectively, as Gavin pushed hard to try to catch the St. Paul's frontrunner. Will Fletcher '16, who had shadowed the third St. Paul's runner throughout the race, surged in the final 400 meters and held on for a thrilling victory. Rock Hoffman '16 and Jack Yoon '16 rounded out the all-senior top five for Middlesex.
Ted Pyne '18 and Jack Pelletier '17 finished 1-2 in the junior varsity race at 19:19 and 19:29 respectively, and inspired running by Alex Scott '17 and Kiran Tremblay '18 secured sixth and seventh positions and the victory, with Chad Arle '17 also scoring for the Zebras.
