Girls' Varsity Soccer Falls to Nobles

11/2/2015 9:15:00 AM

It was a tough day on the road for the Zebras as they traveled down to Dedham to take on perennial powerhouse Nobles. Nobles quickly got onto the scoreboard and took control of the game despite some gutsy play by Pauline Santry '17 in goal in the first half and strong defensive work by Mari Herrema '16 and Mary Demoulas '16 in the backfield. At halftime, the Zebras were down by four but looking to dig deep, find their competitive edge, and to play a more disciplined team game in the second half. Middlesex was able to generate several solid offensive opportunities by Ellery Winkler '19 and Kiara Wahnschafft '17 up top. Midway through the second half, Middlesex gave up a breakaway and in an effort to strip the ball away from the Nobles striker Mary Demoulas was awarded a red card and ejected from the game. Nobles, because the foul was inside the box, was given a penalty kick. Caroline Price '16 was exceptional in goal and saved the penalty kick but shortly thereafter Nobles was awarded a hand-ball call inside the goal box to secure their fifth goal of the game. Middlesex played a man down for the remaining 20 minutes of the game, but, with strong play by the defensive backline and Caroline Price '16 in goal, Middlesex held the Bulldogs to only one goal nonetheless. Middlesex will rebound from this tough loss and adversity to gear up for another tough I.S.L rival on Wednesday, October 29th at 3pm in Weston against Rivers.
