Middlesex was led by the seniors in their last home race, and although the team score ended up in BB&N's favor today, the whole team ran well, making their seniors and parents proud. Senior captain Sonia Tremblay continued to demonstrate her quickness and toughness this week, winning the race in a fast time. Sonia joined the cross country team as a freshman having never run competitively, and her success this season speaks to her determination to improve, both to her training and to her team. Junior Julia McClellan ran aggressively and tactically to finish fifth, followed closely by quickly recovering senior Megan Seymour. Senior Raphaele Sevrain was the next Middlesex finisher, and sophomore teammates Emily Li and Alice Crow weren't far behind. Perhaps the most impressive racing feat of toughness and resolve for the day was the finish of senior captain Phoebe Lindsay, who returned to racing, despite a lingering injury, and was able to contribute to the varsity team.
The JV team was led by freshman Tess Kelley, running, as is her custom, a smart and poised race. She was followed closely by freshman Wani Pandey, with senior Juliette Bendheim not far behind. Junior Sophia Corning and senior Katie Lovell completed the scoring five, with juniors Gabriella Resnick and View Kuphirun completing the MX seven. As impressive as the team scorers, however, was the fact that 26 Middlesex runners started and completed the race, many despite lingering aches and pains. This put the team within 1 runners of our season participation record. Particularly impressive improvements came from new runner Sophie Stewart, who was motivated by what she thought was the presence behind her of her usual running pack of her teammates, but was in fact some runners from BB&N who Sophie ended up finishing ahead of. First-year runners Alejandra Chavez and Christine Lee ran very well together, pushing each other to best times and singing each other's praises as soon as they finished.
The team looks forward to a much-needed long weekend before returning to prepare as a whole team for the ISL championships next Friday at St. Mark's.
