Milton Academy traveled to Middlesex on a chilly fall Saturday and showed their depth and quality in earning a comprehensive victory. The score line masks what was a very competitive contest though, as the midfield trio of seniors Jivan Purutyan and Gavin Tasker, and junior Liam Sloan did a fantastic job of battling and controlling the midfield throughout the match. None of the goals surrendered were the end product of sustained possession and build-up, due to the tireless work and quality in the Middlesex midfield. Seniors Will Christenfeld and Caleb Michalak, along with junior Gavin Garrity-Rokous all had excellent performances in the match as well.
Milton broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when a sloppy clearance led to a service from the right that was pinballed around the box before it fell to the feet of Milton's Ghanaian forward #11 with just enough daylight to poke it home from 8 yards out. Middlesex kept battling and created a few promising moves on the counterattack until a deflating second goal went in after a misplaced pass and a defensive lapse in tracking and communication just fifteen seconds before the halftime whistle. In the 51st minute the score went to 3-0 when the one goal of real quality on the day was scored after a dynamic run down the flank by their right back, #7, led to a ball that was played across the face of goal to their Ghanaian striker, #11, for a sliding finish off of his marker's sliding leg. The final goal came with 15 minutes to play on a soft penalty call, and a spot kick that was tucked low and to the keeper's right by one of their center backs, #5. The Middlesex boys put in a heroic effort on the day and left the field knowing that they had showed real character and had a coaching staff that was truly proud of the effort that the boys had put forth on the day.
