Middlesex played in the uncomfortable confines of Rivers' muddy home patch on a wet Wednesday, and will rue the missed chances that they created and the goals that they gifted. The first goal was an own goal by a Middlesex defender who headed into the wrong net on a corner kick for the only goal of the first half. In the second half, another defensive error gifted another goal to the home side, and the score ultimately finished 2-0. Middlesex created a handful of great scoring chances, but the quality finish, when it mattered, proved elusive. Middlesex's best player on the day was Liam Sloan, who fought hard in the tackle and looked to inspire his teammates going forward. Jivan Purutyan was also strong for Middlesex in the midfield, and the senior captain also bailed out the defensive unit on a number of occasions in the second half.
