The Zebras were on a mission to regain some momentum after a tough I.S.L loss on Friday. Middlesex rechanneled its focus towards gaining and maintaining possession and playing a composed, patient style of soccer. In the first ten minutes of the game, Middlesex executed its game plan beautifully and generated several immediate offensive opportunities. But Dana Hall proved relentless and picked up its style of play with a couple of quick counter attacks and generated a couple offensive chances of their own. Again, Pauline Santry '17 was strong in net and maintained the shut out for the first half. Middlesex continued to battle and find each other in the final third and Ellery Winkler '19 finally broke through their backline to fire on net generating a rebound which she collected and placed solidly in the back of the net. The first half ended minutes later and the Zebras headed into halftime up by one, but determined for more.
The Zebras again refocused for the second half with an eye on managing the "details" of the game including good first touches, winning 50/50 battles and playing to feet. Quickly within the second half, Ellery Winkler '19 once again found the back of the net to put the Zebras up by two. From there, Middlesex dominated the game with outstanding midfield play by Emma Murphy '19 and Kiara Wahnschafft '17 up top. Middlesex secured another goal off of a corner by Ellery Winkler '19 when Mari Herrema '16 volleyed the ball into the back of the net. The Zebras were up by three. Dana Hall was determined to counter and get onto the scoreboard but Caroline Price '16, in her debut performance in goal after injury, was exceptional and thwarted any offensive chance. Finally, Kiara Wahnschafft '17 got the final goal of the game with an excellent through ball past the back four by Ellery Winkler '19 to go one on one with the goalie. Middlesex maintained possession and Caroline Price '16 secured the shutout for the second half.
Middlesex will get back to work for the next two days to prepare for a tough match with Nobles on Saturday in Dedham at 3pm.
