Groton Runs Past Zebras in Girls' Cross Country

10/19/2015 12:18:00 PM

Middlesex was outmatched by the zebras from Groton this year, as both the varsity and JV teams fell in our annual match up.  Still, the team raced and competed with the fierceness and teamwork that characterizes our dazzle, and we look forward to improving our strength and speed in the coming weeks before facing Groton again at the ISL championships.  Fierce just might be the middle name of our team's official and literal leader, senior captain Sonia Tremblay.  Sonia ran a PR on our home course by nearly a minute as she took second place in the race, closing on the leader in the final half mile.  Julia McClellan, Megan Seymour, Emily Li, Emily Arnold, and Raphaele Sevrain did a great job working as a pack throughout the course, pushing each other to do their best. Julia's finishing kick was a race highlight for many spectators. Alice Crow rounded out the varsity seven. Freshman Tess Kelley continues to improve in every race, and today, her improvement brought her to the top of the JV team, followed closely by classmates Wani Pandey and Maeve Zimmerman.  Juniors Sophia Corning and View Kuphirun were the next JV runners to finish, with seniors Katie Lovell and Juliette Bendheim rounding out the JV seven.  Many runners ran their best times of the season and their best times on our home course, with particularly impressive improvements coming from Katie, sophomore Imani Marcelo and junior Sananda Chintamani. Special thanks are also owed to our manager and those not running who helped us make the home race run smoothly.

The team looks forward to well-earned long weekend before picking up our training again before we face defending ISL champion St. Paul's next Saturday.
