Girls' Soccer Defeats Brooks, 2-1

10/15/2015 1:34:00 PM

The Zebras were fired up and ready to take on a perennial I.S.L rival when they hosted Brooks on another beautiful fall day. During the first half both teams battled hard for possession and shared equal scoring opportunities, but neither school could capitalize. Pauline Santry '17 was stellar in net making a tremendous save redirecting a Brooks shot over the crossbar to preserve the first half shutout. The score remained even 0-0 heading into halftime. The Zebras regrouped and refocused on their team goals and they came roaring out of the gates on a mission in the second half.

At midway through the second half, Middlesex was dominating and executing an outstanding team game by maintaining composure, patience, and possession. Finally with about 20 minutes left to go in the half Caroline Hughes '18 made an outstanding run into the middle to beat a Brooks player to the ball and played a strong ball through to Isabelle Fuchs '17 who found the back of the net from outside the 18. Middlesex had the momentum and determination. Several minutes later, with strong defensive positioning by Caroline Reynolds '17, Shannon Wing '17, Mari Herrema '16, and Corina Kotidis '18, Middlesex kept the ball inside the final third and Caroline Reynolds '17 crossed the ball over to Maddie Macmaster '18 who buried it beyond the Brooks keeper on the near post. The Bishops refused to give up and they countered quickly with a goal off of a direct kick. From there it was a battle for the final five minutes. Middlesex was disciplined and focused and maintained possession deep in the Brooks territory to keep the lead. The Zebras came out on top after a beautiful team performance.

Middlesex will get back to work on Monday to prepare for another tough I.S.L match up on the road against Governor's Academy on Wednesday October 14th at 2:30pm.
