Boys' Varsity Soccer Defeats Governor's 3-1

10/15/2015 12:46:00 PM

Middlesex made the trip to Byfield to come away with three points from a highly competitive match. Gov's Nicholas Moore was a force in the attacking midfield role, and he hit a wonderful strike from 25 yards for the host's lone goal. Brandon Benson was also strong in the midfield for Governor's, and he assisted on their goal in the 40th minute. For Middlesex, the first half saw a majority of the possession and an abundance of passing that eventually led to a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. Senior Caleb Michalak sent a ball into the box that was redirected by junior Cole Whisnand into the path of senior Jivan Purutyan, who settled and struck a low knuckler just inside the left post. After a spell of attack and possession, a second goal resulted from a run by Nick Buonanno and a ball slotted through by Gavin Tasker. The challenge towards the top of the box resulted in a ball that sprung off of the tackle with Buonanno and a Gov's defender and into the net. It took until the 87th minute for Middlesex to score a goal that was the result of their combination play, as Tasker settled a ball at the top of the box and played an inviting ball into the path of Whisnand, who hammered home into the far side net from 15 yards out for the 3-1 result.
