Middlesex ran well on a fast, abbreviated course at Thayer Academy. Even though the depth and experience of the Thayer pack proved too much for the Zebras this time, the varsity pack prevailed over the Tabor team, thanks to some strong performances from the whole team. The team effort was led by freshman Charlotte O'Toole, who ran an aggressive race to finish in sixth place. Senior captain Sonia Tremblay was close behind in 7th place, behind the formidable lead trio from Thayer and a strong leading pair from Tabor. Senior Megan Seymour ran her fastest pace yet, followed closely by sophomore Emily Li, and junior Julia McClellan, all of whom finished ahead of the Tabor third runner to secure the team win. The score was helped by senior Raphaele Sevrain, who finished ahead of the Tabor fourth runner, and sophomore Alice Crow, who, running in her first ever varsity race, finished ahead of the Tabor fifth runner to score displacement points.
In the JV race, the team was weakened by the absence of some key runners, but the girls ran fast times and performed well on the unusual road race conditions. Senior Juliette Bendheim was the first finisher for Middlesex, followed by a pack of fast-improving runners: junior View Kuphirun, freshman Tess Kelley, and sophomore Valerie Chen. Senior Katie Lovell was the fifth and final scoring runner, with juniors Sophia Corning and Gabriella Resnick rounding out the top 7. Many runners saw their hard work in practice pay off with big improvements in this race, but other particularly notable standouts in their improvement over last week were Ericka Ekhator and Emily Penaloza. Manager Arielmy Morel was particularly efficient in her management of the gear and results this week.
The team looks forward to a busy week of racing ahead, with a quad meet at Brooks on Wednesday and our annual match-up with other Zebras from Groton on Friday.
