Boys' Basketball Goes 4-0 in Huckins-Rouse Tournament

Middlesex Boys' Varsity Basketball went an impressive 4-0 at the 2014 Huckins-Rouse Invitational Tournament December 19-20.

MX Boys' Basketball came out of exams with an impressive 50-36 win over Portsmouth Abbey (4-1). Hamza Usman and Austin Dorsey led the way with 11 points each, Dorsey also had 8 rebounds. Jack Lyne had 7 points and 8 rebounds and Brandon Shaw had 6 points and 7 rebounds off the bench., Austin Perry had 6 assists and 5 rebounds. 

In the second round of the tournament, the Zebras,hosted Berwick. Junior Jack Lyne started off the game overpowering the undersized opponent with 8 quick points and a 3-pointer by classmate Austin Dorsey gave MX an 11-0 lead. MX controlled the game throughout, with sophomore Ty Lennon leading the way with 11 points and 8 rebounds and senior Armando Ferreira scoring 6 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Khari King had 8 points, senior Mike Wiggill had 5 points, Brandon Shaw with 6 points and Gavin Tasker with 4 points to round out the scoring.

MX played Chase Collegiate in their 3rd game of the Huckins Rouse Tournament. The MX starters jumped out on Chase with a 26-9 lead before leading 50-30 at the half. Austin Dorsey led all scorers with 14 points. MX was also led by freshman Michael Doherty's 11 points and 13 rebounds and junior Brandon Shaw's 10 points and 12 rebounds. Seniors Khari King had 9 points and Armando Ferreira had 6 points.

The Zebras played ISL opponent Groton in its 4th and final game in a 26 hour period to conclude the 2014 Huckins Rouse Tournament. Groton jumped out to a 6-0 lead and led 24-23 at the half. Both teams would remain scoreless for the first 3 minutes of the 2nd half before Groton hit a 3-point shot. MX responded with an 8-0 run, including two Austin Dorsey 3-point field goals to give MX the lead.The Zebras eventually pushed the lead to double figures before finalizing at 50-37. The team's defense held strong over the entire 2nd half, holding Groton to just 13 points. MX was led by Dorsey's 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. Brandon Shaw contributed 10 points and 6 rebounds. Jack Lyne had 7 points and 8 rebounds. Hamza Usman had 7 points and 7 rebounds and Austin Perry had a well rounded game with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.


Senior Austin Perry and junior Austin Dorsey were both named to the 2014 All-Tournament Team.
