The ISL season opened with a beautiful match day in Concord and the Middlesex boys registered a huge victory to open the campaign against St. Mark's. The match opened with high energy levels and the ball was moving crisply on the floor to feet. In the 11
th minute Middlesex worked the ball down the left flank and junior Jivan Purutyan found the space to whip a ball across the penalty area for senior Julian Bishop to finish with his head from 10 yards out for the 1-0 lead. Purutyan was at it again in the 19
th minute as he sent senior Jack Sullivan in for a one-on-one with the St. Mark's keeper, but Sullivan's chip floated a few feet over the crossbar.

Then the game swung in the 32nd minute, as freshman Matt Leigh was allowed to slip through the midfield without ball pressure until he unleashed a shot that came back off of the crossbar. The rebound was an awkward one for Middlesex keeper Dan Carlson to handle and as he missed the ball there was contact with a St. Mark's attacker which resulted in a penalty kick that was finished for the 1-1 tie.

Middlesex took control of the match after the halftime break, and found the breakthrough in the 64th minute when sophomore Gavin Tasker played one of Middlesex's nine corner kicks into the box for senior Brian Powers to redirect for fellow senior Logan Hallowell to bury for the 2-1 lead. Gavin Tasker extended the lead in the 78th minute as a long kick from Dan Carlson was misplayed by a St. Mark's defender and sent Tasker in cleanly on goal. After cutting the ball back and against the grain of the retreating defenders, Tasker buried the ball into the side of the goal with his left foot for the 3-1 lead. Just two minutes later, senior Daniel Parnell gathered a pass from sophomore James Sanderson just outside of the penalty area and after spinning to face the net Parnell calmly chipped the ball over the keeper's head for a comprehensive 4-1 lead.
St. Mark's got one back in the 81st minute from a set piece that resulted in a collision with the keeper and a tap in for the final 4-2 score line. It was a great result on the day for Middlesex against a quality side from St. Mark's, and both teams had pieces of play that were very dangerous.
