After a double overtime to class A rival Phillips Exeter in 2013, the Zebras were ready to battle the visitors on their home field. Middlesex notched a quick first tally, however, Exeter responded with three goals in three minutes to take a 3-1 lead with 19 minutes remaining in the half. Although the Zebra defense did not necessarily come slow out of the gates, it often takes them a few minutes to figure out the strengths and weaknesses of an opponent and respond- the sign of good athleticism. After the third tally, the defensive unit shut Exeter down for nearly 16 minutes of play. The attack then rallied, earning five goals on their end of the field for a 6-3 lead. The teams traded another goal before the half giving the Zebras a 7-4 edge going into the half. The offense and defense continued to play solid lacrosse and Middlesex completely took over the game in the second half. Senior defender Juliana, a typical ground ball and caused turnover master made a rare appearance in the stat book as she tallied the 11th goal of the game for Middlesex. Sophomore Mary notched a key goal to take a decisive 12-6 lead. To Exeter's credit, they never gave up and put in three goals in the final minute on some defensive miscues. The team will look to sharpen up as they travel to BBN on Saturday, May 10, 2014.
