Despite struggling in their doubles matches, Middlesex was able to overpower Pomfret on the singles court.
It was a sunny day with temperatures in the low 60s when the Griffins brought good competition to the Zebras.
Freshman Laura Kaye took control of each point and craftily won both sets at #6 singles. 9th grader Caroline Reynolds started off strong, handily taking the first set. In the second set, she was down 1 – 4 and came back to win 6 – 4; indeed, it was an impressive feat! Though sophomore Abby Myers at #4 singles struggled to find her groove in the first set and was defeated by her opponent, she dug in and turned on her serve to win the second set 6 – 4.
Even though senior Charlotte Flint was off to a slow start, she improved her game as the match wore on, scoring two points for Middlesex at #2 singles and improving her scores from the first to second set, 6 – 4 to 6 – 0.
Our #1 singles player senior captain Olivia Dewey played a competitive match, working through a wrist injury. She scored for Middlesex with her first set (7 – 5), but was overcome by her opponent in the second set.
It was a good day for Middlesex girls' tennis. The team looks forward to facing BB&N
on Saturday.
