Middlesex Drops Groton 13-7

5/4/2014 7:52:00 AM

In a battle of two Zebras, Middlesex welcomed Groton to their home field on Saturday, May 3. While Middlesex struck first within two minutes, the visiting Zebras scored three goals in two minutes to take a 3-1 lead with 20:49 in the half.

After slight adjustments, Middlesex took over the majority of the draw controls and fought more fiercely for ground balls in the midfield.  In addition, the defense stiffened and made several key turnovers, denying the visiting Zebras a goal for the remaining 20 minutes of play in the half.
Inspired by their stalwart defenders, the attacking unit came alive and scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead heading into the second half.

Groton notched the first goal in the second half, closing the lead to 5-4, but the Middlesex attack continued to find the back of the net with solid ball movement and shooting.  Following a Groton goal with 15:29 remaining, the home Zebras exploited their strengths, working together as a true unit.  Several excellent defensive stops coupled with caused midfield turnovers again ignited the attackers thus sparking a  5-0 run for Middlesex in a 12 minute stanza.  With a more comfortable lead, Middlesex took control of the game and confidently finished strong for a decisive 13-7 win.

Ro '14 was tremendous in the midfield, Beeko '14 made 10 saves, and six players contributed to the scoring today.
