The Zebras traveled to Rhode Island to take on Barrington High School, the 2013 Rhode Island State Champions. Middlesex embraced the rain and slippery grass conditions and came out ready to battle a fast and talented Barrington squad.
Although BHS struck first in the opening minute off a fast break, the Zebras remained unrattled and settled into their disciplined attack pattern. Three Middlesex players combined for two goals at the
20:00 and 13:00 minute marks to take a 2-1 lead. BHS came back two minutes later to even the score with
6:21 remaining in the half. The Zebras closed out the half with stellar goalie tending by Beeko '14 and two more goals, the final scored by Gary '14 with
3:10 remaining.
With a 5-2 lead and the continued rain through halftime, the Zebras knew they would have to adjust their game and keep composure in the slippery conditions. In another defensive battle, only three goals were scored in the first 12 minutes of play. BHS brought the score to 4-5, but a quick three goal tally from Emma '16, Rogers '17, and Kota '14 left Barrington rattled.
Overall, the Zebras played a tough defensive game led by Cic '14, Browena '14, and MadWin '14, and Juliana '14 made her debut in the midfield adding to both the defensive and attacking unit. Nat '16 clocked minutes in the defensive unit to help secure the 9-6 win.
