Coming off another exciting revisit day, many of the Middlesex players shifted gears quickly and jumped on the bus to head to Deerfield Academy on Saturday afternoon. Arriving with very little time to warm-up, the Zebras quickly shook off their bus legs and prepared for another Class A battle.
Deerfield struck first with two quick goals in the first minutes of play, but the Zebras responded with some tough defense and three unanswered goals to take the lead. The play went back and forth, but Middlesex tipped the score in their favor 6-4 at the halftime break.
Stepping up the ride and making a few defensive adjustments helped Middlesex take complete control of the game in the second half. After the 17 minute mark, the defensive unit led by seniors Juliana, Cici, Beeko, Talya and Ro shut down Deerfield's scoring attempts while the offensive unit scored five more goals to end the game 13-6.
In the final minutes of play, senior Brooke scored on a beautiful goal set up by unselfish Fehnel and midfield anchor Kota rallied for a buzzer beater in the last second.
The team will look to continue their winning ways when they host St. Paul's for their first home game of the season at 3:00pm on Wednesday, April 9.
