With just three practices under their belt, the Zebras knew that the first game against Class A rival Phillips Andover would be a huge test of composure and patience.
The first half was a true display of early lacrosse with both teams making numerous turnovers, particularly in the midfield transition. Middlesex notched the first two tallies early on, but Andover quickly matched the goals and took the lead with
15:20 remaining in the half. The scoring opportunities went back and forth, but the Zebras managed to put two in the back of the net in the remaining two minutes to take a 5-4 lead at halftime.
With some halftime adjustments, Middlesex came out more poised and slowed down the pace to limit unnecessary turnovers. In the second half, four Middlesex players tallied four unanswered goals to take a 9-4 lead with
12:46 remaining, but the Zebras knew they could not let up against a fast and athletic Andover squad. While Andover tallied two goals on fast breaks, the Zebras continued to run a disciplined attack and scored two more well-executed goals.
In the defensive end, Beeko '14 made seven point- blank saves in the second half to secure the win.
Seven players contributed to the goal scoring, Cici '14 grabbed three key ground balls, and Maddie '14 added two interceptions.
The team will regroup and work to prepare for Class A rival Deerfield on
Saturday, April 5.
