With grit and tenacity, the Middlesex girls' varsity tennis team outlasted their opponents from Rivers to secure another victory on Friday afternoon in Concord, MA.

It was sunny with temperatures in the upper-60s. The conditions were ideal for good tennis, though without a breeze, the girls felt a heat they have not played in yet this season.

At #1 singles, Olivia Dewey started off strong with powerful serves and a savvy tactical game. However, as she moved into the second set, her consistency waned, and the set went to her opponent.

Charlotte Flint played a smart game at #2 singles, working to dictate each point. She won the first set 6 - 3 and maintained her lead through the second set to finish with an improved score of 6 - 2.

Katie Bull proved that she plays her best tennis under pressure. She kept spectators on the edges of their seats in her nail-biter match. She won both sets in tie-breakers, quite a come-back from her match against St. Paul's.

Abby Myers at #4 maintained good focus and control of the points in her match. She handily won the first set 6 - 3, and wore down her opponent to win the second set 6 - 1.

Laura Kaye battled out the first set at #5, ultimately losing the tie-breaker. The score (6 - 2) in the second set does not show the commendable fight and determination Laura demonstrated on each ball, never giving up on a point.

The first set of the #6 singles match lasted an hour and a half as each girl struggled to break the other. It was Caroline Reynold's stamina and competitive perseverance that enabled her to overcome her opponent in the tie-breaker of the first set. Once the momentum was gained in her favor, she handily won the second set 6 - 1.

With good team chemistry and strategic communication between partners Middlesex also won two out of three of the doubles matches.
Middlesex  will continue to stay aggressive and work hard next week during practice before facing Phillips Andover on Wednesday.
