Thayer Outlasts Middlesex 5-4

4/22/2014 10:42:00 AM

Thayer Academy recorded four straight hits with two outs in the bottom of the 7th to beat Middlesex 5-4 in ISL baseball play on Saturday.

Thayer struck first in their half of the second inning against Middlesex starter Ben Cherington. Cherington would settle down however and give the Middlesex offense time to get back into the game. In the top of the 4th, Justin White scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead in half, setting the stage for Max Novick, who blasted a three run homer to right to give Middlesex a 4-2 lead.

The score stood there until the last of the 6th, when Thayer put their first two runners on, chasing Cherington from the game. Two sacrifice flies against Middlesex reliever Will Thrun made the score 4-3. Thrun recorded the first two batters in the 7th before allowing three straight hits to tie the game. Joe Frye came on in relief of Thrun but another Thayer hit brought home the game winning run.

Middlesex will battle Lawrence Academy on Wednesday at 3:15.
