The boys' varsity basketball team traveled to Bentley College to face ISL rivals Milton Academy for a 2:00pm contest. Junior Hamza Usman buried a long three-point shot with just three seconds remaining in regulation to continue the season of late-game heroics for this Middlesex(12-4) team.
Trailing 65-60 with just over a minute to go, Aaron Swenson hit a deep three-point shot to cut the lead back to two. And despite a solid defensive possession, Milton answered with a tough three pointer as well. With a little over 30 seconds remaining, Swenson drew a crowd and found Usman for a really, really deep three. Middlesex was forced to foul as the Mustangs stepped up to the line with 16 seconds to go. Milton missed both free throws, and deja vu began with Swenson dishing to Usman (for his second three in the final minute) to give MX a 69-68 victory over back-to-back ISL Champions Milton Academy.
Swenson finished with a game-high 32 points and seven assists. Usman had 16 points, five rebounds and four assists. Juniors Austin Perry and Austin Dorsey had seven points and six rebounds each. Senior Peter Beatty had six points to go along with a tremendous defensive effort against Milton's 6'10" Princeton bound big man.
Senior co-captain Swenson completed a miraculous week of basketball, playing every second of every game versus three high-level opponents(Brooks, Lawrence and Milton). The Waltham, MA native had games of 28, 28 and 32 points respectively and now stands with 963 career points.
Middlesex had previously never beaten any of the past three opponents over the last three seasons.
The team returns to the court on Wednesday when they travel to Thayer for a 4:00pm game.
