Middlesex Upends St. George's 47-38

2/23/2014 8:26:00 PM

The Middlesex boys' basketball team staged another late game comeback led by senior co-captain Jon Siu's 16 points and some timely three pointers from Austin Dorsey (nine points).  Although the Zebras didn't shoot their best from the floor, they came back from an eight-point deficit in the second half to capture their 19th win of the season.

The Zebras were held to just 18 points in the first half and trailed by four at the break (22-18).  Siu stepped up in the second half and kept the game within striking distance.  Dorsey hit two crucial three pointers and Jack Lyne had two baskets to give Middlesex the lead.  However, some controversy ensued late in the game with the Zebras up by two when, with less than 30 seconds to go, St. George's committed an intentional foul.  Ben Cherington stepped to the line and hit both free throws.  Because it was an intentional foul, Middlesex retained possession, and Cherington would go on to seal the victory with four more free throws in the closing moments.

Aaron Swenson (five points), Hamza Usman (five points) and Austin Perry also played pivotal roles in the win.

Middlesex finishes the regular season with an overall record of 19-4 and will face the number one seeded Beaver Country Day in the first round of the Class B New England Basketball tournament.
