Middlesex achieved yet another come from behind victory versus Belmont Hill Friday evening for their 16th win of the season. After a slow start in the first half, the Zebras rallied together to defeat the visiting team 61-56.
Despite trailing 23-18 at the half, Middlesex would finally take its first lead of the game with seven minutes 30 seconds to go. Down 40-36, senior captain Aaron Swenson took control of the game with eight straight points and the team never looked back.
Middlesex led 58-49 with five minutes to go when an offensive rebound by Jack Lyne led to a three-point field goal by Austin Dorsey which opened the lead to four. MX maintained a seven-point advantage with two minutes to go but some turnovers and missed open shots kept Belmont Hill within striking distance. Hamza Usman made three out of four crucial free throws, as well as made several defensive stops to help cement the win for Middlesex.
Swenson scored 24 of his 32 points in the second half while Jack Lyne had eight points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Austin Dorsey had six points to go with five rebounds.Â
Middlesex returns to the Cage for its next game versus St. Paul's on Wednesday at 4:30pm. The team will then celebrate Senior Night on Friday versus Concord Academy at 4:30pm. The Zebras will be saying goodbye to six seniors: Aaron Swenson, John Siu, Pete Beatty, Hasani Figueroa and Adbulaye Sanogo.
