The Middlesex Boys' Varsity hockey team picked up their first win of the season against Worcester Academy 5 - 0 on Wednesday at home.
Junior forward Tabor Smith had a break out game for the Zebras, finishing with two goals and three assists for a total of five points for the game.
Smith, along with senior co-captain Eric Shaw and junior forward Matt Banks, led the attack in the first period where they dominated territorial possession that resulted in the first goal of the game.
From a scramble in around the Worcester Academy net, Eric Shaw showed poise off of the right side of the net as he pulled a rebound back and hoisted it high for a 1-0 lead.
Smith followed with a terrific finish as a result of some beautiful passing with both Shaw and Banks to build the lead.
Adding to the first period scoring, Shaw stole a puck from a Worcester attacker and sent Smith in on a partial breakaway for the third goal of the period.
Early in the second period off of an offensive zone faceoff, Nick Kender sailed a beautiful wrist shot through a screen from the left point that eluded the Worcester Academy goalie to take a 4-0 lead.
In the third period, it was Matt Banks' first goal of the year that was scored in tight to the Worcester Academy net that put the finishing touch on the scoring with assists going to both Smith and Shaw.
Tristan Collins was outstanding in goal in making 31 saves and earning the shutout with some terrific stops during the course of the game.
