The 2014 – 2015 Boys' Varsity hockey team opened up the season in front of one of the biggest crowds in recent history with a hard fought 2-2 tie versus Pingree School.
The first goal of the game came when a Pingree forward took possession of the puck deep in the Middlesex zone and launched a terrific shot which beat Middlesex goalie Derek Goguen at 12:53 of the period. The Zebras responded on the power play when senior forward Ben Marchand made a sprawling effort to tap in a loose rebound to tie the game at 1-1.
In the second period, Middlesex continued to dominate territorial possession and capitalized on a beautiful tic tac toe goal by Senior Co-Captain Harrison Markell with assists going to Tabor Smith and Matt Banks.
Pingree tied the game on the power play when Matt Daley was sent off for a cross checking penalty at 10:39 of the period. Sam Carlin made a great block off a shot from the slot but it took a strange bounce in the opposite direction for a goal.
Middlesex had the better of the chances in the third period and overtime but could not come up with one more goal. Derek Goguen had a strong performance in goal and finished the game with 34 saves. Next up for Middlesex is Worcester Academy on Wednesday, December 3 at 5:15 PM at home.
