Heavy winds and adverse field conditions made for an unpredictable last match of the ISL, as Middlesex traveled to St. George's and came away on the wrong end of a 3-2 result. St. George's opened the scoring in the 8
th minute as their forward turned along the baseline and played a ball back in bounds for a near post finish. Middlesex answered in the 15
th minute, as Gavin Tasker scored his ninth goal of the season at the back post after a service from the foot of Kyle Finke. A bizarre turn of events led to a 2-1 lead for St. George's in the 29
th minute. A St. George's attacker was allowed space at the top of the box and his shot was touched by keeper Dan Carlson on to the right post and back for Carlson to smother the rebound. A flag from the far sideline waved to stop play and a goal was allowed after a delay to discuss what had occurred.

The deficit grew just after halftime, as a muddy slip by a Middlesex defender at the back post led to a close range finish for a 3-1 lead. Middlesex continued to keep the lion's share of possession, but was stymied by the staunch defense of St. George's. In the 81
st minute, a Gavin Tasker free kick into the wind fell to the feet of Matt Rhinelander for him to poke it home and cut the deficit to 3-2. Senior captain Brian Powers pushed forward from the backline and put increasing pressure on St. George's, including a point blank shot in the 78
th minute that went right into the keeper's chest.

In the 89
th minute, Gavin Tasker looked to have knotted the score with a smooth finish, but as the team was celebrating the linesman was waving his flag and disallowed the goal with an offside call. Disappointment set in as the final whistle went and St. George's stormed the field. Both teams fought incredibly hard and fair under very adverse conditions and the rivalry day was certainly a memorable one. Middlesex finished the 2014 season with a record of 10-5-2 and 9-5-1 in the ISL. This was a special season with remarkable team chemistry and a consistently strong effort throughout the campaign.Â

Special thanks go out to the Seniors: Mike Wiggil, Armando Ferreira, Jack Sullivan, Kyle Finke and Daniel Parnell, and particularly to four year Varsity players Brian Powers, Dan Carlson, Logan Hallowell, Alex Rego, and Julian Bishop. The leadership of the senior group was outstanding and made for a fantastic year for the Middlesex Boys' Soccer Program.
