An unseasonably warm day in Dedham was the setting for a showdown between two of the top teams in ISL Boys' Soccer. Middlesex opened the match with a golden scoring chance in the 3
rd minute, as James Sanderson beat two Nobles markers to the end line and dropped the ball back to a unmarked Gavin Tasker whose back post shot went just wide of the post. Nobles took control of the match in the first half for a stretch and their lone goal resulted from one of countless long balls played forward towards the Middlesex box. After a clearance by a Middlesex defender, Matt Ranieri latched on to the rebound with a first time strike that found the far side of the net in the 23
rd minute. The score remained 1-0 until halftime.
Middlesex came out with a much more competitive demeanor in the second half and dominated play for the last 20 minutes. The Zebras created several chances, including a first time rocket from 20 yards struck by Daniel Parnell that went straight into the chest of the Nobles keeper. Gavin Tasker created several chances down the stretch including a dangerous back post service that Mike Wiggil was very close to heading home before the Nobles keeper punched it clear. The game was extremely competitive from start to finish and Middlesex was very unlucky not to knot the score in the second half. Middlesex (9-3-2, 8-3-1 ISL) returns home on Saturday, November 1st to face Roxbury Latin under the lights and on the grass of Kravis Field with kick-off set for 6:30 PM.
