A great crowd turned up for the Thayer Homecoming Day, and they witnessed a hard fought effort by both sides. James Ferrera and Grant Nichols ran hard up top for Thayer, and Nichols came closest to scoring for Thayer with an excellent set piece from distance that forced keeper Zach Suazo into a desperation tip over the crossbar.
Middlesex got on the board within the first three minutes, as a scrum in the box saw Matt Rhinelander play the ball into some space on the left side of the goal for Julian Bishop to hammer home. Middlesex continued to press for the second goal and were rewarded eight minutes from halftime. Alex Rego distributed the ball out of the midfield to Gavin Tasker, who cut the ball inside to his left foot and unleashed a shot from over 30 yards that hit the top of the far post and settled into the back of the net.
The second half evened out, as Thayer showed grit and determination throughout the match. Middlesex closed out the scoring in the 65th minute as Jack Sullivan sent a free header on frame from a corner kick.
