Boys' Soccer Claims 3-1 Win Over St. Sebastian's

10/18/2014 8:22:00 PM

St. Sebastian's traveled to Concord for a Parents' Weekend clash with Middlesex, and produced a gritty and resilient performance from start to finish.  Raffi Barsamian and Doyle Silvia worked extremely hard in the midfield and keeper Matthew Eldridge produced six quality saves to keep the match close.

The scoring opened in the 19th minute when Brian Powers headed the ball home from a corner kick.  Matt Rhinelander then produced a blistering drive four minutes later that struck the post squarely from 20 yards, but not into the net.  In the 37th minute some strong work from Gavin Tasker led to a dangerous ball through the box for Caleb Michalak to run onto and bury into the side net for the 2-0 lead.  In the final minute of the first half, St. Sebastian's were awarded a penalty kick that was neatly finished by Doyle Silvia to cut the Middlesex lead in half going into the break.

St. Sebastian's was resolute in their defending in the second half and it wasn't until Tasker found an unmarked James Sanderson at the back post for a simple finish to secure the win for Middlesex.  Jivan Purutyan put in a noteworthy performance in the midfield for Middlesex and the home crowd breathed a sigh of relief as the final whistle went at the end of the match.
