Boys' Soccer Extends Win Streak to Four

10/16/2014 7:38:00 AM

A tough midweek matchup resulted in a thrilling end-to-end match, as Middlesex took three vital points on the road at Belmont Hill with a 3-2 victory.  The first half was played at a high tempo that led to 11 shots for Middlesex and some fine stops by Eric Rolfs in the Belmont Hill net.  The deadlock was broken just three minutes from halftime, as a series of corner kicks for Middlesex led to a volleyed finish from James Sanderson inside the box.

Just over two minutes after the halftime break Sanderson was at it again, as he turned his man and found Matt Rhinelander unmarked in front of the net for a tap in and the 2-0 lead.  Then, in the 59th minute, Emmett Gordon wound up with a bouncing ball at his feet on a counterattack and he fed Chip Daley for a fine volleyed finish.  Gordon and Josh Fisher continued to apply the pressure for the next fifteen minutes until a long clearance from Brian Powers made it behind the Belmont Hill back line and a streaking Gavin Tasker gathered it and tucked home for the 3-1 lead.

Belmont Hill continued to fight, and were rewarded when Gordon dribbled at speed into the box, went down, and buried the ensuing spot kick to complete the 3-2 score line.  It was a great advertisement for the quality and competitiveness of ISL boys' soccer, as both teams had solid performances and fought to the final whistle.
