It was the battle of the Zebras on Friday when Middlesex and Groton faced off in their annual rivalry. In the first half, Middlesex moved the ball, maintained possession and generated dangerous scoring opportunities by Shannon '16, Jac '17, Isabelle '18, Kiara '17 and Natalie '15. However, Groton netted their first of the day when the Zebra defense pushed up to force an offside call and Groton was able to sneak in behind the strong defensive line. Despite the early goal, Middlesex continued to press and battled for the 50/50 balls, particularly with strong play by Corina '18 and Mary '18 in the back.

Middlesex continued its offensive press and solid ball movement into the second half and continued to generate opportunities, nearly scoring off of a rebound by Groton's strong goaltender. However, Groton scored their second of the day from a rebound in front of the net to widen the lead. Despite the loss, it was a hard fought battle with outstanding team play all around. Middlesex will re-focus for another opportunity next Wednesday in Wellesley, Mass. against Dana Hall at 3:15 PM.
