Zebras Explode in Second Half for 4-0 Win in Boys' Soccer

10/11/2014 6:31:00 AM

The mid-season Zebra derby match swung decisively in the second half, as Middlesex scored four goals to defeat Groton. The first half was evenly played, with Alec Reiss looking particularly strong for the Groton defense, as they limited Middlesex to three first half shots.

With a few halftime adjustments made, Middlesex found the back of the net quickly after the restart. Gavin Tasker floated an excellent ball over the last defender and on to Julian Bishop, who brought the ball down with his first touch and finished with his left for the 1-0 lead. In the 65th minute, Jack Sullivan flicked a ball from Logan Hallowell beyond the defenders for Matt Rhinelander to run in cleanly on keeper Peter White. Rhinelander took one touch to round the keeper and another to deposit it for the 2-0 lead. Within a minute of that goal, Jack Sullivan was brought down on the left side of the box and he finished the penalty kick that he had created.

The score finished at 4-0 after Alex Rego fed Gavin Tasker for a fierce volley that snuck in at the near post from just inside the penalty area. Groton was extremely well organized and put forth a resilient and strong effort. Middlesex played great team defense and limited the chances well for the entire 90 minutes.
