It was a tough day on the roads for the Middlesex wrestling team as they traveled to Beaver Country Day for a 4:15pm dual match on Friday, January 24. Despite arriving just 10 minutes before the meet was set to begin however, the team unloaded the van in a hurry and prepared for the matches ahead.
The team had a positive and upbeat attitude as they warmed up and laughed throughout pre-match duties. Although Middlesex knew they would be facing an opponent that was low in numbers, they approached the afternoon with intensity and focus.
Khoa Phan (120lbs) had a smooth takedown and quick pin to start the afternoon strong for Middlesex while Tae Hwan Son quickly turned a few point deficit into a pin by the second period.
Senior captain Jordan Phinney was on top of his game, as he pinned his opponent in an impressive 57 seconds.
With several forfeits, there was a great match of skill between Gavin Fujimori and his opponent -the 2013 New England place winner- at the next weight class up. In the JV matches, Khoa Phan, Marcus Coward, Chris Inzinga and Jordan Phinney also turned in solid performance on the mat for Middlesex.
Congratulations to Khoa Phan and Jordan Phinney for earning the Wrestlers of the Day title. The final score was Middlesex 48, Beaver Country Day 10.
The team now looks forward to practicing at the Harvard University wrestling facilities on Saturday, January 25 to work with renowned NCAA Champion, J.P. O'Connor.
