On Wednesday, January 22, the Girls' Varsity Squash team made the trek south to Pomfret to play a tri-match with Loomis and Pomfret.
First up for MX was Loomis, and unfortunately the Zebras lost a heartbreaker to the other visiting team: while juniors Katie Bull and Zarena Jafry prevailed in three games at the number one and two positions, playing skillful and strategic squash, Middlesex was unable to break through at any other spot on the ladder. Senior Olivia Dewey lost a very close match at #3 that turned on just a couple of points, and, at #6, senior Grace Jensen almost came back from two games to none down to win, but was eventually worn down by her opponent's power in the fifth game. Thus, victory was not to be for MX in this one, as Loomis turned out to be just a little more experienced and skilled overall.
After that tough loss, the team regrouped and played its strongest squash of the season, defeating Pomfret 7-0 without losing a game. Particularly eager to regroup after a loss and playing much better than in their first match were Olivia Dewey at 3, senior April Simms at 4, and sophomore Hadley Parker 5, but the whole team played with skill, controlling the T and choosing shots well.
