The wrestling team faced a tough Belmont Hill squad at home on Wednesday, Jan 22, losing by a score of Middlesex 22 Belmont Hill 45.
The lower weights had a tough time against the Belmont wrestlers, known for experienced lighter weights. With two forfeits at 106 lbs and 113 lbs, Belmont Hill took an early lead they would not relinquish. While tough matches were fought at 126lbs, 132lbs, they came up short to their higher ranked opponents.
However, Gavin Fujimori won a major decision at 138 lbs with an 11-0 victory by establishing control and relentless speed early in the match.
A tough match at 170 lbs pitted Nick Agee against the senior from Belmont Hill, who went the distance of the full three periods to decide an outcome. The final score of 1-5 in favor of the opponent did not do justice to the hard fought, well wrestled match.
After forfeiting 182 lbs, Middlesex won the next three matches. George Morris at 195 lbs, Steven Zawada at 220lbs, and Will Baxter at heavy weight all won consecutive matches.
Steven Zawada was in fantastic form with a clear overpowering style and move selection. Will Baxter got back on the winning track with a superb strategy against a larger heavyweight to finalize the pin and end the match on a high note.
Congratulations to Steven Zawada and Will Baxter for Wrestlers of the Week honors
