Wrestling Wins Eighth Match in a Row

1/20/2014 10:22:00 AM

The snow fell. And fell.  And fell.

The team assembled in the athletic center eagerly awaiting the bus scheduled to drive them to Lexington Christian to face LCA and Portsmouth Abbey Saturday afternoon.  With the end of the semester behind them, the team was determined to finish off with a strong outing before taking the weekend break.

Outstanding effort by the team was shown as the day unfolded. Everyone contributed to the Middlesex victory-victories now totaling  eight consecutive wins.

The starters came out strong while the reserves kept everyone focused.  Even the team manager pulled together some quick documentation to the scoring book to keep up with the hectic ref signals on an already hectic afternoon.

At one point during the 132 lbs match a flurry of points exchanged between the two wrestlers where the score had to be quickly accounted for and Sebastian Biber was able to substantiate the points in the confusion.

Final score, Middlesex 58  LCA 21.

Eighteen of the points awarded to LCA were forfeits.

Wins were posted by Khoa, Tae Hwan Son, Gabe Smith, Gavin Fujimori, Jivan Purutyan, Jordan Phinney, Nick Agee,  George Morris and Steve Zawada.

The lone forfeit was added by Will Baxter at heavyweight.

Outstanding performances on the day were noted for Jivan Purutyan and Marcus Coward in a post-match battle designated as scrimmage but worthy of credit, supplying plenty of excitement.

In the second match (even through the bad weather and traffic) Portsmouth Abbey made the trip up from Rhode Island to take on the Zebras from Middlesex.

The wrestlers also known as the Portsmouth Ravens were tough but the energy level of Middlesex was as powerful as a steam locomotive.

Final Score Middlesex 60 Portsmouth Abbey 10.

Pins were notched by Tae Hwan son at 126lbs and with Jivan Purutyan, Jordan Phinney, Nick Agee, Alex Wagner all pinning in the first period.

Congratulations! These victories mark the first ever eight consecutive wins by the wrestling team in school history! WOW
