A hungry Milton Academy team put on a masterful performance on Saturday afternoon in Concord, MA. And although the young Zebras' resolve was put to the test, the competition allowed the team to learn a bit about who they are under adversity.
The first great scoring chance of the game came after senior captain Sean Pensavalle served a ball to the back post and sophomore Gavin Tasker struck the full volley cleanly out of the air on frame and forced the Milton keeper into a good save. In the 38
th minute Milton's young Ghanaian forward was allowed to cut in along the edge of the area without applying any ball pressure and he gratefully took the invitation to shoot and curled a ball into the far side net for the 1-0 score line. Just before the stroke of halftime, sophomore Jivan Purutyan was gifted a chance at the right post as the Milton keeper misjudged a ball and dropped it in front of the Middlesex midfielder whose shot went harmlessly wide of the near post.
The second goal came after a strong spell of play for Middlesex to open the second half, as Milton won a penalty on a lightning counter attack where their speedy forward was brought down in the box. Milton's left back dispatched the penalty to the right side as the keeper went the other way for the 2-0 score. The final goal came in the 69
th minute as Milton's #3 dribbled through a host of Middlesex defenders and buried the rebound off his saved first shot.
The Middlesex boys will have to bounce back quickly, as they take to the road to face a dynamic attack at Lawrence Academy on Wednesday.
