Girls' Cross Country Defeats Milton and Tabor but Falls to Nobles

9/22/2013 7:19:00 PM

Middlesex faced last year's top two teams in the ISL at Nobles for their first race of the season. Tabor was there to join the fun, as well. Despite having many new runners on the roster, 20 members of the Middlesex team set out from the starting line and performed admirably, defeating Tabor, earning a tie with Milton, and losing to a very deep and talented Nobles squad.

Middlesex was led by Mahal Alvarez-Backus '15 who challenged the top runners from Milton and Nobles but was not able to close the gap and finished 3rd.  Captain Talya Kramer '14 provided excellent leadership, passing three in the finishing chute to secure the day's results.  In their first races ever, seniors Nell, Rowena, and Susie ran great races to wrap up the team score.  Alex Schoen '14 ran with poise and strength, finishing ahead of the Milton 5th runner and, according to cross country tiebreak rules, earned the win over Milton.  Phoebe Lindsay '16 rounded out the top seven in her first varsity finish.

Many girls ran their first races with Middlesex, and it was inspiring to see everyone cross the finish line only to quickly head back out on the course to cheer on their teammates.  We look forward to seeing more teamwork and improvement in the races to come.
