Middlesex Blanks Pomfret 7-0

5/9/2013 9:20:00 AM

Middlesex stepped out of league play today by traveling to Connecticut to take on the Griffins of Pomfret.  The term student-athlete was put to the true test as several of the players began the day by taking Advanced Placement examinations.  Despite a long drive through steady rain, the team got off to a fast start.

The teams reversed the normal order of play and sent the three doubles teams out first.  Anita Kodali '13 and Nikita Kodali '13 captured the number one doubles match in a tie-breaker.  The number two team of Olivia Dewey '14 and Charlotte Flint '14 were dominant from the start and captured their set 8-1.  Completing the sweep of the doubles matches was the third team of Bess Butler '13 and Katie Bull '15.  Katie and Bess played beautifully together and put the Zebras only one point short of securing the victory. The team would not have to wait long to clinch the match as Sophia Corning '16 displayed her strong ground strokes and captured the 4th and deciding point.  Olivia, Charlotte and Emma Satterthwaite Muresianu '16 all played well and helped the Zebras to sweep the Griffins 7-0.

Overall, it was a terrific team win for the team.  The Zebras return to league play on Saturday by hosting a strong BB&N team during Reunion Weekend.  We look forward to having a large fan base cheer us on.
