On Saturday the boys’ crew team took the trip down to Pomfret, CT for their last regular-season race before NEIRAs. As usual, the conditions were ripe for good racing, and all crews took advantage throughout the afternoon.
The 5
th boat had their most exciting race of the season to date, as they were neck and neck with Pomfret all the way down the course, barely clinching the 1.2 second win in the last 300 meters. Unfortunately the stroke seat of the 4
th boat succumbed to a stomach illness that had been going around campus the week prior, leading the 4
th boat to scratch at the line 5:00 minutes before the start. Rowing at their notoriously high ratings, the 3
rd boat put together a stellar race against Pomfret and Chase, winning over 2
nd place Pomfret by 9 seconds. The 2
nd boat had a tight race with Pomfret throughout the middle of the course, but Pomfret rowed through them in the sprint, winning by 5 seconds. Finally, in the 1
st boat race, Chase got out early, leaving Pomfret and Middlesex to race it out for second place. Going into the sprint, Pomfret was up by 2 seats, which Middlesex took back in the next 15 strokes. Unfortunately the boys couldn’t hold on, and lost to a resurging Pomfret by 2 seconds.
