The girls' varsity tennis team continued its strong season by defeating previously undefeated Phillips Andover Academy 8-7. The team changed up its uniforms for the day wearing pick tank tops in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Thankful for perfect weather conditions, the Zebras captured seven of the 12 singles points.
Led by Captain Emma Satterthwaite Muresianu '13, the team displayed great consistency and smart match play. Playing number one singles, Emma captured both sets. Nikita Kodali '13 and April Simms '14 also won both sets of their matches, with Nikita powering back from 2-5 to take the second set in a tie-breaker. Sophia Corning '16 played well and split sets to give the team a 7-5 lead.
The match would come down to the three doubles matches with Middlesex needing just one of the sets to capture the team victory. Any suspense was put to rest early as the number one doubles team of Emma and Olivia Dewey '14 displayed great team work and net play in winning their set 8-3. The remaining teams of Nikita and Anita Kodali '13 and Sophia and April battled hard but fell to talented teams from Andover. It was a great team victory for Middlesex.
Middlesex returns to ISL play on Saturday when it welcomes Groton in the annual "Battle of the Zebras."
