Brooks Edges Past Middlesex

5/16/2013 9:43:00 AM

The Middlesex girls' varsity tennis team dropped a close match to Brooks on Wednesday 8-7.  The teamed traveled to North Andover to play in blustery conditions.  Despite a few raindrops, the match was able to be played in its entirety.

The Zebras took an early lead in the singles matches behind the strong performances of Olivia Dewey '14 and Nikita Kodali '13.  Both players swept their two sets.  Anita Kodali '13 and Charlotte Flint '14 each split their sets and that made the score 6-6 after the singles matches were completed.

As has been common in recent matches, the final results would come down to the doubles matches.  Olivia and Emma Muresianu '13 battled hard, but dropped the first doubles match.  Anita and Nikita came back from 4-5 to win their match 8-6.  The  number three doubles team of Nell Gallogly '14 and April Simms '14 played well in the difficult conditions, but fell to Brooks in the final match.

While the team had many positive moments today, we also left points on the courts that ended up costing us the overall match. The team will take a break from match play this weekend when we travels to Westminster School to play in the NEPSAC Class B Tournament.  The Zebras are the number two seed and will play Ethel Walker in the first round.
