On a stormy, windy day in Billerica, the Middlesex boys' crew team hosted Deerfield and Nobles on the Concord River. Throughout the races there was a gusty tailwind, which also generated some serious chop through the middle 500 of the course.
The 5
th boat got their first race of the season on the river, where against Deerfield only they went off the line with a charge, but soon had a boat-stopping crab, which 2-seat never fully recovered from, rowing with his feet out for the remainder of the race. Fourth boat posted a bigger margin over Nobles compared to two weeks prior, which reflected their hard work and a slightly changed lineup. The 3
rd boat battled down the entire course with Nobles, but unfortunately came in 3
rd by 1 second-reversing their win over Nobles from two weeks before. The 2
nd boat came off the line strong, but began losing ground on Deerfield and Nobles at 500 in, but still maintained a reasonable margin all the way down the course until the sprint where the other two crews moved away. After a tiring race, the 2
nd boat actually paddled back up to the starting line to race in the 1
st boat race as well, since ½ of the MX 1
st boat was out with illness.
Thanks to Deerfield and Nobles for coming to the Concord River and providing some great competition for the Middlesex boys.
